WATCH: Pastor escapes death after attackers jam gun

A Pennsylvania pastor is thanking God for life after a man pointed a gun at him during his final Sunday sermon.

Pastor Glen Germany leads the congregation at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, PA. Last Sunday, the unthinkable happened when a man calmly walked to the front of the church and pulled out a gun, pointing it at Pastor Germany.

The church’s message is streamed live for people to watch at home, so the entire incident was captured on film.

“I thought: this isn’t happening,” Germany told the local news channel.

The attacker smiled at the pastor as he walked toward him, Germany said. As the man pulled the trigger with the intention of killing the pastor, the gun jammed.

“I’m grateful to God that I’m still here because he definitely pulled the trigger,” Germany told another news source.

Twenty-six-year-old Bernard Polite is charged with attempted murder. After the initial attempt on the preacher’s life, a deacon can be seen tackling Polite to ensure nothing escalates further.

“He is a hero,” Germany says of the deacon who took action.

While he is still processing everything that happened, Pastor Germany shares that he has forgiven his attacker.

“This guy was just dealing with ghosts, he said, and he came in and wanted to shoot someone.”

Germany had never met Polite in his life. Police are investigating another shooting after finding a body in Polite’s home.
