Teacher salaries in Illinois are among the best in the nation, according to a new report

Illinois teachers are among the highest paid in the country, according to a new report.

The National Education Association report gathers information from each state’s education department and analyzes trends across the country.

The report includes the average teacher salary for each state, as well as attendance, enrollment, employment and funding.

According to the new report, the average teacher salary for 2022-2023 was $69,544, which is an increase of 4.1% from the 2021-2022 school year.

Illinois also saw an increase in teacher salaries, according to the new report. The average teacher salary in Illinois was $73,916 for the 2022-2023 period, an increase of 2.2% from 2021-2022, when salaries were $72,315.

Overall, Illinois is ranked as the 12th best state nationwide for teacher salaries.

California ranked highest with a salary of $95,160, while West Virginia was lowest at $52,870. The report shows that teachers working in states with collective bargaining earn an average of 26% more than in states without collective bargaining.

National average spending in 2022-2023 was $16,281 per student, a 3.0% gain over the 2021-2022 year of $15,808 per student. Shares of state and local funding remained at similar levels for the 2022-2023 year: 44.5% and 42.3%.

Federal funding continued to account for a historically high share of school revenues due to the influx of federal COVID relief funds, accounting for 13.2 percent of total revenue receipts in 2022-2023. The share of state and local funding in 2022-2023 remained at a similar level to the previous year, at 44.5 percent and 42.3 percent, respectively.
